The station was established in 1880. However, the original station house has not existed since either 1942 or 1951. Like the nearby Centre Avenue station, it is little more than some ground-level platforms with some shelters, and a ticket vending kiosk. It is also wheelchair-accessible for the handicapped. Unlike the Centre Avenue and Oceanside stations, there are direct connections to MTA Long Island Bus routes at the stop.
This station has two high-level side platforms each 10 cars long. The east platform, adjacent to Track 1, is generally used by westbound or New York City-bound trains. The west platform, adjacent to Track 2, is generally used by eastbound or Long Beach-bound trains. The Long Beach Branch has two tracks at this location.
